Richardson Texas Retirement Communities
Located in the northern inner suburb of Dallas is Richardson Texas. With a population of just over 100,000, this affluent community has made several "Best Places" lists including our own "10 Best Places to Retire".
We chose Richardson for our list of “Best Places To Retire” for several reasons. Retirees can enjoy an abundance of recreational and cultural activities, affordable housing and some of the finest medical facilities in the country all with a crime rate that is well below the national average.
The city of Richardson boasts a symphony orchestra, a community band, a visual arts society, several dance troupes and 68 museums all within 30 miles. The city also plays host to the the annual Wildflower Festival where festival goers can enjoy music performances as well as arts and crafts.
Recreational activities include Fishing, Boating and Sailing at nearby Lakes Hubbard, Lavon and Lewisville. Other activities include both College and Professional Sporting events, Swimming, Walking Trails and wildlife. For the golf enthusiast, there are nearly 200 golf courses within 30 miles of the city of Richardson.
The median home price in Richardson is $164,000 which is below the national average of $176,900. The downside is property taxes in the area average about $4800 annually. Keep in mind though that Texas is one of only 7 states that have no state income tax which will offset the high property taxes.
The Dallas area has some of the finest heath care facilities in the country. There are no less than 4 adult hospitals within 30 miles of the city of Richardson that made the list of “Americas Best Hospitals”. Parkland Memorial, Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation, Baylor University Medical Center and The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center all offer very high levels of care so if health care is an important factor in your decision in choosing your best place to retire, the city of Richardson Texas may be a place you will want to consider.
Crime in the city of Richardson Texas has been given a crime rating index of 80, with the national average being 100. This number is based on FBI crime reporting jurisdictions for the most recent seven years available weighted. Considering that Richardson is suburb of a very large city, this is a very impressive statistic.
Americas Best Places To retire was unable to find any Active Adult Communities that were actually located in the city of Richardson but the north Dallas/Plano area does have several communities to choose from.
